About The Position

Mercer-Zimmerman, a lighting manufacturer’s representative with over 130 experts, is seeking a self-motivated, collaborative sales professional for their dynamic team. The company contributes to Des Moines’ most exciting new commercial construction projects. The ideal candidate will be familiar with the construction industry and eager to collaborate with the team, manufacturers, and the local specification community (architects, engineers, and lighting designers) to deliver top-quality products, technical support, and exceptional service. This is a full-time, salaried position offering competitive pay and a comprehensive benefits package.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 3–5 years of outside sales experience.
  • Strong Communicator: You excel in both verbal and written communication.
  • Relationship-Builder: Your ability to develop and maintain trust is second to none, thanks to your integrity and follow-through.
  • Problem-Solver: You thrive on finding creative solutions and thinking proactively to avoid potential challenges.

  • Tech-Savvy: You have the ability to grasp technical information and are proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the architectural or lighting design field is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, design, engineering, or a related field is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain strong, mutually beneficial relationships in the Des Moines market, making Mercer-Zimmerman the go-to agency for lighting and controls solutions.
  • Stay up to date with regular manufacturer trainings, updates, and sales calls to ensure a deep understanding of the innovative lines we represent.
  • Conduct engaging product trainings, either in the field or at manufacturer facilities, to showcase our wide range of cutting-edge lighting solutions.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to clients, offering superior solutions tailored to meet design specifications, budgets, and timelines.
  • Partner with our inside team to advocate for clients throughout the bidding process, submittals, order management, and installation phases.
