About The Position

IWK Health is seeking a Specialty Technologist - Mammography to operate radiological and accessory equipment for mammography. The technologist will perform quality screening and diagnostic mammography with minimal supervision, displaying independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative. This role involves performing radiological procedures for medical diagnosis, including assessing requisitions, obtaining patient history, selecting techniques, positioning patients, operating X-Ray equipment while adhering to ALARA radiation safety practices, carrying out sterile techniques when required, and performing clerical duties related to patient care. The position is located at the IWK Main Campus in Halifax, NS, and is a permanent, full-time (100% FTE) role within the NSGEU Healthcare bargaining unit.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an approved school of Radiological Technology required.
  • Current registration or eligible for registration with the Nova Scotia College of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Professionals (NSCMIRTP) is required.
  • Current registration or eligible for registration with the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) required.
  • Current successful completion of a Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada Basic Life Support (BLS) program within the last 12 months or successful completion of a BLS Renewal Challenge Certificate is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to make independent technical decisions and work as part of an interdisciplinary team, required.
  • A high degree of mental and visual acuity, as well as reasonable manual dexterity is required.
  • Must be willing to obtain continuing education as part of CAR Mammography Accreditation.
  • Demonstrated excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.

  • Mammography experience preferred.
  • Competencies in other languages an asset.
