The Specialty Segment Controller is responsible for segment-level controllership and government accounting compliance execution across the line of business. This role leads FAR and CAS accounting interpretation and execution implications in partnership with the Government Contracts & Compliance function and ensures consistent, audit-ready accounting practices across all EAS operating entities. The role operates in a high-influence environment above site controllers, who report to local General Managers, and partners closely with Corporate Accounting, Government Contracts & Compliance, and the Sr Director, Specialty & Strategic Finance. The position is not responsible for routine entity-level close execution, but plays a critical role in segment-wide close coordination, balance sheet quality review, reporting integrity, and communication.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline.
  • Significant experience in aerospace, defense, or government contracting environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of US GAAP; FAR required; CAS familiarity where applicable; demonstrated DCAA audit exposure.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through influence in matrixed organizations with decentralized reporting structures.
  • Strong judgment, communication skills, and executive presence.
  • U.S. Citizen required; ITAR constraints apply.

Responsibilities

  • Segment accounting execution is consistent, audit-ready, and compliant with US GAAP, FAR, and CAS (where applicable).
  • FAR/CAS implications are translated into correct accounting treatment and consistently executed across all PPS entities.
  • DCAA audits and compliance reviews are anticipated, planned for, and managed proactively with minimal disruption.
  • Segment accounting and compliance processes scale effectively through acquisitions, system changes, and business growth.
  • Lead FAR/CAS accounting interpretation and execution implications in partnership with the Government Contracts & Compliance function.
  • Drive DCAA audit readiness, coordination, response execution, and sustained remediation at the segment level.
  • Translate government contracting compliance requirements into practical accounting execution across Specialty entities.
  • Coordinate consistent accounting execution compliant with US GAAP and EnerSys policies across Specialty entities through influence over site controllers.
  • Participate in the segment-wide close process through review, analysis, reporting compilation, and communication, with particular emphasis on balance sheet quality and accounting integrity.
  • Support consolidation of actual results into management reporting views, partnering closely with the Sr Director, Specialty FP&A & Strategic Finance.
  • Lead the controllership and compliance workstreams for segment and enterprise initiatives, including acquisition integration, ERP implementations, and major operating compliance programs.
  • Coordinate and aggregate segment-level financial and compliance reporting for locally owned initiatives, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and transparency, without owning initiative execution or delivery.
  • Support cost reduction and process optimization initiatives where driven by cost accounting structures, FAR/CAS requirements, compliance needs, or controllership and control-efficiency improvements.
  • Support consistent local implementation of Corporate Accounting control standards across PPS entities.
  • Track and coordinate remediation of internal control findings in partnership with Corporate Accounting and Internal Audit.
  • Escalate systemic or unresolved accounting and compliance risks through established enterprise governance when necessary.
