About The Position

The Specialty Resource Clinical Assistant will require flexibility and knowledge of skills in different areas of the organization, which will require floating to all areas on a regular basis. The patient care team at CVPH consists of a Registered Nurse (RN) and a Clinical Assistant (CA). This team provides care for a group of patients which may vary depending on unit and shift. CAs are an integral part of hands-on patient care and experience. Working under the direction and supervision of a RN and depending on the unit, they are responsible for taking and recording vital signs, performing designated tests and collecting patient samples, assisting the RN in the care of patients, help to maintain a clean, safe and well stocked environment, perform resident care to include rehabilitation exercises as instructed by nursing and rehabilitation therapies, Video Monitor Assistant duties (VMA), sitting one to one, and supporting patients in all activities of daily living. CAs meet patients and their families as they enter the unit, welcoming and acclimating them to the unit. CAs interact with unit staff, physicians, and other hospital department personnel. It is critical that CAs provide timely and accurate communication, accurate documentation and maintain a harmonious, team oriented, customer friendly environment. CAs must be able to function competently in a computerized medical setting. Individuals in the Specialty Resource Clinical Assistant position may be expected to float to other areas of the hospital to work within their competencies. AHA-BLS certification is required - however, certification is not a qualifying factor to obtain the position. The three principal duties of this position are: • Patient Care: Works under the direction of RN Partner to provide responsive, service-oriented patient care. • Testing: Conducts various patient tests and specimen collection as directed by RN Partner. • Clerical: Functions as the “front door” to the unit providing customer service-oriented communication and clerical support.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent work experience including ability to read, write and comprehend medical terminology
  • Completion of a New York State approved Long Term Care training program
  • Current New York State CNA certification required
  • Two years’ experience as a nurse aide or have satisfactorily completed a nurse aide training program or other relevant clinical experience that required ambulating, bathing and feeding of patients
  • Willingness to use positive communication skills while performing job duties
  • Ability to perform detailed assignments, work under pressure, and relate to patients, hospital staff, physicians, and visitors
  • Ability to use basic computer skills
  • Willingness to attend and complete CVPH education requirements satisfactorily
  • Meets requirement for pre-employment screening and physical exam
  • Competency to perform Heimlich maneuver
  • Ability to work independently, handle interruptions, take direction and prioritize
  • Provides documentation within the first 30 days of employment indicating no record of Child Abuse, Neglect and/or Maltreatment through the New York State Central Register
  • Must successfully complete Preventing and Managing Crisis Situations (PMCS) training in the first 30 days of employment
  • Must successfully complete Video Monitoring training
  • Meets screening requirements for Skilled Nursing Facility New York State Central Registry
  • As applicable, the individual has training/competency in attending to the special needs and/or behaviors appropriate to the age of patients for which care is being provided

Nice To Haves
