This role is located at Methodist Physicians Clinic - West Dodge Medical Plaza in Omaha, NE, with a work schedule of Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 4:30 pm. The Specialty Certified Medical Assistant assists physicians in daily activities, including patient preparation, assisting with Mohs surgery, phlebotomy, injections, medication and order entry, scheduling diagnostic tests, and managing phone calls.

Requirements

Graduation from accredited Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) program required.
Successful completion of annual mandatory education requirements.
Three to five years previous experience in a clinical nursing unit with preference in Surgical Services or in patient/out patient surgery.
Current valid Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) License, valid compact multi-state license, or a temporary permit while awaiting licensure required for work state.
Strong interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate and interact with patients, family members, hospital personnel, and co-workers.
Ability to multi-task and prioritize work assignments.
Ability to learn, retain, and utilize computer skills that are required for department and hospital information system.
Ability to problem solve.
Ability to demonstrate attention to detail, assessment skills, knowledge of basic sterile technique, utilization of an automated external defibrillator (AED) and perform.
Willingness to learn all principles of infection control.

Nice To Haves

Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at time of hire, required within 3 months of hire.
Certification(s) in area of specialty preferred.

Responsibilities

Provides appropriate care specific to the age of the customer/patient, to ensure understanding and comfort level of treatment as outlined in the Population Specific Criteria.
Demonstrates ability to identify opportunities for and give individualized customer service/patient care according to customer/patient needs.
Performs an initial and ongoing assessment to determine the patient's needs. Includes data from the patient/significant other(s) in the assessment as appropriate.
Prioritizes data collection according to patient's immediate needs.
Prepares patient for physician exam by assessing symptoms, weighing patient, checking vital signs, obtaining relevant information pertinent to patient needs, documenting all information/procedures and reviewing patients medical record 95% of time when applicable.
Develops/reviews/revises and individualizes the plan of care to address the patient's nursing care needs for optimum patient care outcomes.
Collaborates with providers and other clinical disciplines as appropriate.
Provides teaching specific to the patient.
Care plan reflects continuing care needs and/or referrals.
At the direction of the physician, provides patient and family education regarding proper use of medication, medical equipment and health/illness prevention to ensure adequate knowledge/awareness and recommending appropriate community resources 95% of the time.
Implements interventions that are consistent with the established plan of care in a safe and appropriate manner.
Is familiar with, and follows, nursing protocols and standards of care.
Uses current knowledge in nursing practice based on standards and research literature.
Performs technical skills competently and independently to assure patient safety.
Able to competently perform technical skills independently.
Is accountable to learn new skills and equipment within areas' specifications and time frame.
Demonstrates correct and safe technique in the use of equipment according to specific product information and policy and procedure manuals.
Follows appropriate procedure for obtaining and returning or cleaning/disposing of equipment and supplies.
Administers medications according to physician orders to ensure patient health care by injection, inhalation, oral or intravenous methods 100% of the time.
Performs diagnostic testing under direction of physicians to obtain relevant information pertinent to the patient needs 95% of the time.
Start, maintain and discontinue Intravenous (IV ) infusions.
Performs phlebotomy to obtain specimens according to standardized procedures 95% of the time.

Provides appropriate follow-up care to coordinate patient needs by following department specific guidelines 95% of the time.
Includes but not limited to, following policy and procedure for post-procedure patients.
Maintains work areas to ensure healthy environmental conditions by cleaning and organizing equipment and rooms 95% of the time.
Assists physician with various procedures to facilitate patient care by preparing and monitoring patient, readying, supplies, medications, equipment and assisting according to physician instructions 99% of time.
