About The Position

The Specialty Pharmacy Technician provides pharmaceutical care in accordance with professional and departmental standards and statutory requirements. Under moderate direction and supervision, the technician works in designated areas or functions at the site, operates relatively independently, and has some decision-making responsibility. The role may involve interaction with other departments or businesses outside the pharmacy department.

This position requires enhanced knowledge or training in the assigned specialty area beyond that of a pharmacy technician. The technician may train employees in the specialty area, take ownership of assigned work and ensure its quality and completeness, collect or report data related to an assigned area or project, and serve as a departmental role model and leader. Concerns identified in the work area must be escalated through the chain of command.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Experience with sterile compounding, or at least 6 months of technician experience, or graduation from an ASHP-accredited technician training program.

Nice To Haves

• Michigan State Pharmacy Technician license (required upon hire).
• Michigan State Pharmacist Intern license (required upon hire).
