Specialty Gas Operations Engineer

Micron TechnologySyracuse, NY
Onsite

About The Position

Support the build, construction, commissioning, and preparation for operation of specialty gas systems for Micron’s high-volume semiconductor manufacturing facility in Clay, New York. Coordinate the scope of gas delivery systems for hazardous and non-hazardous gases, including toxic, pyrophoric, corrosive, inert, and cryogenic gas setups. Partner with design firms, construction teams, vendors, and internal interested parties to ensure gas systems meet project specifications, safety standards, performance requirements, and regulatory compliance. Transition from construction and commissioning support into operations engineering and sustaining support upon completion of the project phase.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field.
  • 3+ years of experience in specialty gas engineering, gas delivery systems, facilities engineering, construction engineering, or related industrial engineering environment.
  • Experience reviewing engineering work you're doing such as P&IDs, specifications, 3D models, equipment layouts, and system design packages.
  • Knowledge of gas delivery system design, including pressure regulation, gas cabinets, gas panels, hazardous gas monitoring, and point-of-use delivery.
  • Familiarity with applicable codes and standards, including SEMI S2/S6, NFPA 55/70, CGA guidelines, OSHA requirements, and local fire codes.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting specialty gas systems in semiconductor, pharmaceutical, high-purity manufacturing, or other sophisticated industrial facilities.
  • Experience coordinating with third-party design firms, contractors, vendors, and multi-functional engineering teams.
  • Experience with control systems, including PLC, SCADA, hazardous gas monitoring, or related facility control platforms.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, or other BIM/design coordination tools.
  • Professional certifications or advanced training related to hazardous gas safety, professional engineering, GAWDA, or specialty gas system design.

Responsibilities

  • Review and validate specialty gas system build work, including P&IDs, gas panel schematics, equipment specifications, system routing, 3D models, and VMB/VMP layouts.
  • Evaluate gas system designs for flow capacity, pressure control, material compatibility, leak integrity, constructability, safety, and code compliance.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, construction partners, vendors, and external design firms to integrate gas systems with process tools, exhaust systems, life safety systems, and other facility utilities.
  • Support construction execution by responding to RFIs, reviewing submittments, participating in field coordination, and supporting inspections.
  • Supervise commissioning, testing, startup, and validation activities for specialty gas equipment and delivery systems.
  • Implement and support safety protocols for hazardous and cryogenic gases in alignment with OSHA, NFPA, CGA, SEMI, and local regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor system health using diagnostic tools, performance data, and operational feedback to identify risks, resolve issues, and improve reliability.
  • Use BIM and design review tools, including Revit, Navisworks, or similar platforms, to support design coordination, system documentation, and operational readiness.
