About The Position
Barnes-Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical Center is the largest hospital in Missouri and is ranked as one of the nation's top hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. Barnes-Jewish Hospital's staff is composed of full-time academic faculty and community physicians of Washington University School of Medicine, supported by a house staff of residents, interns, fellows and other medical professionals. Recognizing its excellence in nursing care, Barnes-Jewish Hospital was the first adult hospital in Missouri to be certified as a Magnet Hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. The Surgical Specialty Clinic consists of a total of 13 clinics - Ortho Spine, Ortho Trauma, Ortho Recon, Ortho Foot and Ankle, Ortho Hand, Plastic Hand, Plastic Recon, General Surgery, Urology, Neurosurgery, ENT-Head and neck, ENT plastics, and Otology. The clinic runs 1/2 day to whole day clinics Monday thru Friday from 0800-1700. We are closed on weekends and major holidays. The staff consists of RNs, Clerical, and the Resident Physicians who rotate through our clinic for their outpatient educational experience. The clinic sees about 13,000 patients a year. We treat a range a medical problems from fractures, minor excisions, evaluations for surgery, etc. Provides direct patient care to support the licensed professional nurses responsible for a team of patients to ensure a safe environment for patients by reducing risk of harm. Collects vital information on the patient and reports such to the nursing team which contributes to the overall assessment of each patient and any changes to a patient's condition.

Responsibilities
- Implements direct patient care under the supervision of the nurse, promoting patient and family centered care in a healing environment.
- Administers or assists patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), performs vital signs, intake & output, fall and pressure ulcer prevention measures, urinary catheter care, phlebotomy, or point of care testing as requested.
- Collects clinical data and information on patients, and reports changes in patient status to the nurse.
- Assists nurse with patient and family education.
- Documents all patient care activities provided with correct medical terminology.
- Acts as 1:1 patient safety sitter as necessary.
- Ensures availability of supplies and equipment to meet each patient's needs.
- Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality and regulatory compliance.
- Participates in professional development.
