About The Position

We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Specialized Transportation Manager to lead, develop, and grow our specialized transportation operations. This role will be responsible for building and managing a high-performing team of Specialized Service Representatives supporting complex transportation solutions, including liquid bulk, dry bulk, drayage, and other specialized freight services. The Specialized Transportation Manager will be accountable for developing the team, expanding our specialized transportation capabilities, strengthening carrier and customer relationships, and ensuring the division consistently delivers exceptional service, operational execution, and profitability.

Requirements

3+ years of transportation, logistics, freight brokerage, or related industry experience.
Experience with specialized transportation, bulk, tanker, drayage, or other complex transportation services strongly preferred.
Previous leadership, supervisory, or team-management experience preferred.
Strong understanding of transportation operations, pricing, capacity, and carrier management.
Demonstrated ability to develop customer and carrier relationships.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an understanding of revenue, gross profit, and margin management.
Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment.
Strong sense of urgency and accountability.
Proficiency with transportation management systems, CRM platforms, Microsoft Office, and other applicable technology.

Responsibilities

Lead, coach, develop, and grow a team of Specialized Service Representatives across multiple specialized transportation segments, including liquid bulk, dry bulk, drayage, and other specialized services.
Establish clear performance expectations and hold the team accountable for service, productivity, revenue, gross profit, and overall profitability.
Develop and execute strategies to grow the specialized transportation division through new customers, increased business with existing customers, and expansion into new specialized service offerings.
Oversee the day-to-day execution of specialized transportation movements, ensuring shipments are managed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with customer requirements.
Develop and maintain a strong network of qualified specialized carriers, including bulk, tanker, drayage, and other equipment providers.
Build strong relationships with customers, carriers, and internal teams to ensure consistent service and identify opportunities for additional business.
Monitor market conditions, capacity, pricing, and competitive trends to ensure the division remains commercially competitive while protecting margins.
Identify operational challenges and develop solutions that improve service levels, efficiency, and profitability.
Work closely with sales and operations leadership to develop opportunities and convert specialized transportation opportunities into profitable business.
Establish and monitor key performance indicators for the specialized transportation team.
Analyze revenue, gross profit, margins, load volume, service performance, and other operational metrics to drive accountability and continuous improvement.
Develop processes, SOPs, and best practices that create consistency and scalability across specialized transportation operations.
Assist with recruiting, onboarding, training, and ongoing development of Specialized Service Representatives.
Foster a culture of ownership, urgency, teamwork, accountability, and customer service.
Ensure compliance with company policies, customer requirements, and applicable transportation regulations.
Serve as a subject-matter resource for specialized transportation opportunities and complex operational challenges.
Collaborate with the EVP of Commercial Operations and senior leadership to establish and execute the long-term strategy and growth plan for the specialized transportation division.
