About The Position

Under the direct supervision of a certificated teacher, assists in the instruction of students in a specialized program; performs a variety of instructional support tasks; performs related duties as assigned.

This position is for the Autism program at Wallin Elementary School.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Associate's degree, or 60 college credits, or passing score on the Paraprofessional Assessment (Praxis or NCLB).
• Experience working with children, preferably in an educational or specialized program setting.
• Ability to assist with instruction and behavior management.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to follow directions and work as part of a team.
• Physical ability to perform tasks such as lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.

Nice To Haves

• Experience working with students with autism spectrum disorder.
• Bilingual skills (English/Spanish).

Responsibilities

• Assists in the instruction of students in a specialized program, such as special education, gifted and talented, or English as a Second Language.
• Works with individual students or small groups to reinforce and supplement learning activities.
• Assists students with daily living skills, personal hygiene, and behavior management.
• Prepares instructional materials and learning centers.
• Operates and maintains classroom equipment.
• Assists with supervision of students during non-instructional time, such as recess, lunch, and field trips.
• Maintains records and performs clerical tasks as assigned.
• Communicates with parents or guardians as directed by the teacher.
• Participates in staff development and training activities.
