About The Position

Under the direct supervision of a teacher, assists in the instruction and supervision of students with disabilities in a specialized program. Assists in the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and provides support to students in academic, social, and daily living skills. This role requires patience, empathy, and the ability to work effectively with students with diverse needs.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Completion of two (2) years of college (48 credit hours) or an Associate's degree, OR passage of the ParaPro Assessment.
Experience working with children, preferably in an educational or special needs setting.
Ability to assist with student physical needs, including lifting and transferring.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude.
Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
Basic knowledge of child development and behavior management techniques.

Nice To Haves

Experience working with students with autism spectrum disorder.
Bilingual skills (English/Spanish).

Responsibilities

Assist the teacher in providing instructional support to students with disabilities.
Implement IEP goals and objectives under the guidance of the teacher.
Supervise students during instructional activities, transitions, and non-instructional periods.
Assist students with daily living skills, including personal hygiene, feeding, and mobility.
Provide behavior management support and implement behavior intervention plans.
Assist in the preparation of instructional materials and classroom setup.
Maintain accurate records of student progress and behavior.
Communicate effectively with the teacher, other staff, and parents.
Ensure a safe and supportive learning environment for all students.
Participate in professional development activities as required.
