About The Position

Under the direct supervision of a certificated teacher, to assist a certificated teacher in providing instruction and supervision to individuals or small groups of students with special needs; to perform a variety of instructional support tasks; and to do other related work as required. This position is for the Autism program at Wiener ES.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Completion of two (2) years of college (48 semester units) or an Associate's degree.
  • One (1) year of experience working with children, preferably in a school or special education setting.
  • Knowledge of basic child development and behavior management principles.
  • Ability to assist with instructional activities and provide supervision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to perform basic record-keeping.
  • Must possess a valid Nevada driver's license.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with students with autism spectrum disorder.
  • Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) are desirable.
  • Experience with specialized equipment used in special education.

Responsibilities

  • Assist a certificated teacher in providing instruction and supervision to individuals or small groups of students with special needs.
  • Perform a variety of instructional support tasks.
  • Assist in the preparation of instructional materials.
  • Supervise students in various settings, including classrooms, playgrounds, and during field trips.
  • Assist with the personal care needs of students, as required.
  • Implement behavior management strategies under the direction of the teacher.
  • Maintain records and documentation related to student progress and behavior.
  • Collaborate with the teacher and other staff members to support student learning and development.
  • Operate and maintain specialized equipment as needed.
  • Participate in staff development and training sessions.
