About The Position

Under the direct supervision of a certificated teacher, to assist in the instruction and supervision of individuals or small groups of students with disabilities in a specialized classroom setting; to perform a variety of instructional support tasks; and to do other related work as required. This position is for the Autism program at Squires ES.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Associate's degree, or 60 college credits, or passing score on the Paraprofessional Assessment.
Experience working with students with disabilities, preferably in a special education setting.
Knowledge of basic child development and behavior management techniques.
Ability to follow oral and written directions.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and parents.
Physical ability to perform tasks such as lifting, restraining, and supervising students.

Nice To Haves

Experience working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) are desirable.

Responsibilities

Assist in the development and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities.
Provide direct instruction and support to students in a specialized classroom setting, following established lesson plans and behavioral strategies.
Supervise students during classroom activities, transitions, and non-instructional periods, ensuring their safety and well-being.
Assist in the preparation of instructional materials, including adapting and modifying materials as needed.
Collect and record data on student progress, behavior, and participation.
Communicate effectively with certificated teachers, other school staff, and parents regarding student progress and concerns.
Maintain a positive and supportive learning environment.
Assist with classroom management and behavior support strategies.
Participate in staff development and training sessions as required.
