About The Position

A specialized paraprofessional assists the classroom teacher in providing a safe learning environment where children’s individual needs are met. This role involves implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and Behavior Plans, assisting with learning activities, and supporting students with health and self-help needs. The paraprofessional also plays a role in developing students' social and emotional skills and supervising them during various school activities.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma (minimum)
  • 60 college credits/Associate’s Degree/ability to pass the ParaPro Assessment
  • Evidence of experience working with students
  • Hepatitis B Vaccine (paid for by school)
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention training (paid for by school)

Responsibilities

  • Implements IEP and Behavior Plan under the supervision of the teacher.
  • Assists the teacher with the learning activities of students in both group and 1-on-1 settings.
  • Assists students with health and self-help needs, including but not limited to, feeding, toileting, positioning, and dressing. This may require operating specialized equipment.
  • Assists students in developing social and emotional skills.
  • Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, recess, field trips, specials, and general education.
  • Participates in general and job specific training as determined by the supervising teacher and principal.
  • Supervises students in instructional activities at the direction of the teacher, including Math, English, fine motor skills, and handwriting.
  • Communicates with the supervising teacher on student progress and/or special needs of students.
  • Assists teacher with recording student progress data.
  • Assists with bus duty in the mornings and afternoons, helping load and unload students.
  • Performs other reasonably related duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Maintains confidentiality as defined within the policy and procedure manuals.
  • Assess the need for Functional Behavior Assessment and Behavior Intervention Plan including the development of effective data collection systems.
