About The Position

Under general supervision, this position is responsible for the safe and efficient provision of a variety of pool and land-based instructional lessons, programs and trainings to both clients and staff members. This position performs duties deemed to be safety sensitive. Employees holding this position participate in pre-employment and random drug testing under Town’s policies. Requirements

  • Must be at least sixteen (16) years of age.
  • Private Swimming Instruction: Must be a current Town of Parker Swimming Lesson Instructor.
  • Private Swimming Instruction: Possession of, or ability to obtain a CPR and First Aid certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Private Swimming Instruction: Ability to swim at or above the teaching level.
  • Adaptive Swimming Instruction: One (1) year of experience teaching swimming lessons.
  • Adaptive Swimming Instruction: Prior experience working with individuals with disabilities.
  • Adaptive Swimming Instruction: Possession of, or ability to obtain a CPR and First Aid certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Adaptive Swimming Instruction: Ability to swim at or above the teaching level.
  • Masters Swimming & Fitness Coaching: Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age.
  • Masters Swimming & Fitness Coaching: High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Masters Swimming & Fitness Coaching: Eight (8) years of competitive swimming in an organized program with two (2) years of previous masters coaching experience.
  • Masters Swimming & Fitness Coaching: USMS Level 1 Masters Coach Certification, ASCA Level 1 or equivalent or the ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
  • Masters Swimming & Fitness Coaching: Possession of, or ability to obtain a CPR and First Aid certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Lifeguard & Safety Instruction: Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
  • Lifeguard & Safety Instruction: High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Lifeguard & Safety Instruction: Two (2) years of lifeguard and CPR instruction.
  • Lifeguard & Safety Instruction: Possession of current American Red Cross Lifeguard, CPR/AED, Oxygen & First Aid certification or equivalent.
  • Lifeguard & Safety Instruction: Possession of current American Red Cross Lifeguard and CPR/AED/FA Instructor (LGI) certification or equivalent.
  • Lifeguard & Safety Instruction: The ability to crossover to American Health & Safety Institute and Starguard Elite Instructor certification within thirty (30) days of hire.
  • Auditor & In-Service Instruction: Must be 21 years of age.
  • Auditor & In-Service Instruction: High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Auditor & In-Service Instruction: Three (3) years of lifeguard and lifeguard management experience.
  • Auditor & In-Service Instruction: Possession of current certifications in Lifeguard Instructor (LGI), BLS, First Aid, Emergency Oxygen, and Water Safety Instructor (WSI).
  • Auditor & In-Service Instruction: The ability to crossover to Starguard Elite lifeguarding & instructor standards upon hire.
  • Knowledge of relevant town, state, and federal laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Knowledge of swimming and lifeguarding techniques and processes.
  • Knowledge of municipal swimming facility rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of recreation center equipment and facilities.
  • Skill in the training and supervision of personnel.
  • Skill in the use of computers and various software programs.
  • Skill in the provision of swimming, lifeguarding and lifesaving teaching techniques.
  • Skill in verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to provide feedback in a positive, constructive manner.
  • Ability to recognize and respond to emergency situations in a pool or classroom setting.
  • Ability to handle incidents and confrontations in a recreation facility.
  • Ability to provide a positive customer service attitude towards all people.
  • Ability to demonstrate various swimming and/or lifesaving (CPR/AED/First aid) techniques for students.

Responsibilities

  • Provides one-on-one or small group instruction, coaching and evaluation to clients and staff through one or more Aquatics Division Programs: Private Swimming Instruction, Adaptive Swimming Instruction, Masters Swimming & Fitness Coaching, Lifeguard & Safety Instruction, Auditor & In-Service Instruction.
  • Upholds and enforces facility safety guidelines and follows all applicable policies and procedures including, but not limited to Starguard Elite, Health & Safety Institute, Starfish Aquatics Institute and US Masters Swimming instructor and participant guidelines.
  • Ensures course or lesson area is safe, set up and clean, prior to and following each session; begins classes/lessons on time and in an organized manner.
  • Ensures all necessary equipment and supplies are present and in proper working order prior to each course, restocks the same following each course, alerts staff designee of any broken or low stock items.
  • Communicates equipment/supply needs to staff designee prior to each session.
  • Evaluates participants and provides immediate positive and corrective feedback.
  • Establishes and maintains positive working relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Reports incidents or accidents to supervisor immediately and provides necessary first aid care.
  • Completes necessary reports and maintains records as outlined by specific program.
  • Utilizes effective written and verbal communication techniques to communicate with Town of Parker staff, management, and the public in a positive and professional manner. This includes use of technology to collect and disseminate data and other pertinent information.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
