About The Position

L3Harris is seeking an experienced Test Engineer to support the design verification, characterization, and integration of automated RF test systems and subsystems. The role contributes to validation of RF hardware across development, qualification, and manufacturing phases, working with cross-functional engineering teams. The position involves designing and operating automated production test systems, conducting RF measurements, troubleshooting RF performance issues, and supporting verification and validation of RF components and systems. The engineer develops test automation and documentation, analyzes results, supports environmental and compliance testing, and helps transition test methods from development into manufacturing. The schedule is 9/80: work 9 out of every 14 days, totaling 80 hours, with every other Friday off. The role is located in San Diego, California, and requires a Secret security clearance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field and 4 years of prior experience; or a graduate degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field and 2 years of prior related experience; or, in lieu of a degree, at least 8 years of prior related experience.
  • Secret Security Clearance required.

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding of RF/microwave principles, including S-parameters (gain/loss/VSWR/return loss), phase noise, and harmonics/spurs.
  • Experience using RF hardware in development or production environments, such as filters, amplifiers, attenuators, couplers, splitters, and switches.
  • Hands-on proficiency with common RF laboratory instrumentation.
  • Experience with schematics, block diagrams, interface control documents, and test requirements.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and identify root causes of hardware and measurement issues.
  • Experience with test automation and data analysis tools.
  • Experience with digital logic and differential communication protocols.
  • Experience with schematic capture and PWB design.
  • Experience with wireless communications, telemetry, radar, EW, SATCOM, or aerospace/defense RF systems.
  • Familiarity with digital modulation analysis and communications measurements such as BPSK, QPSK, and OQPSK.
  • Experience with automated test equipment architecture and script-based test development.
  • Knowledge of environmental and qualification testing for ruggedized hardware.
  • Experience with encryption/decryption devices and systems.
  • Familiarity with Linux, VHDL, and development board platforms such as ZYNQs, Zed Boards, and Arty Boards.
  • Experience with Python, C++, and MATLAB.
  • Experience supporting design-to-production transitions.
  • Experience generating and deriving system requirements from product specifications, RVTMs, VCRMs, and Validation Plans.

Responsibilities

  • Design automated production test systems with multi-unit capabilities, automated fault detection, and test reporting.
  • Develop, execute, and document test plans, procedures, and reports for components, subsystems, and full system assemblies.
  • Design and perform RF measurements, including gain, phase noise, power output, spurious response, sensitivity, EVM, BER, and spectral emissions.
  • Set up and operate spectrum analyzers, signal generators, vector network analyzers, power meters, and oscilloscopes.
  • Troubleshoot and isolate RF performance issues at the board, module, and system levels.
  • Support design verification and validation testing for transmitters, receivers, synthesizers, converters, filters, and amplifiers.
  • Develop automated test solutions using LabVIEW and TestStand.
  • Analyze test data and provide technical conclusions and recommendations to design teams and program leadership.
  • Collaborate with RF design, systems, manufacturing, quality, and production teams to resolve technical issues.
  • Support environmental, qualification, and compliance testing as needed.
  • Create and maintain test documentation, calibration requirements, and configuration-controlled records.
  • Assist with transitioning test methods from development into manufacturing or production environments.
  • Apply familiarity with Design for Test (DfT) and Design for Manufacturing (DfM).
