About The Position

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at Michigan State University (MSU) invites applications for a fixed-term Teaching Specialist position, with an anticipated start date of August 16, 2026. This is a nine-month academic-year appointment with primary responsibilities in teaching and service. Additional opportunities may exist for summer salary compensation. The position is initially funded for a three-year period, with appointments renewed annually during that time. Renewal beyond the initial three years may be possible, depending on instructional needs, funding, performance, and departmental priorities. This position plays an important role in supporting the department’s mission in undergraduate education. The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of high-quality instruction, course coordination, and student engagement across the CSE curriculum. Candidates should be able to teach a variety of undergraduate computer science courses and work collaboratively within a team-based instructional environment. The successful candidate will join a department committed to innovative instruction, student success, and continuous improvement in teaching and learning. Requirements

  • Prior teaching experience in a higher education environment
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively teach undergraduate-level computer science or engineering courses
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, graduate teaching assistants, and students

Nice To Haves

  • Industry experience relevant to computer science or software development
  • Experience with innovative instructional methods, active learning, or pedagogy-focused initiatives
  • Ability to teach across a broad range of undergraduate computer science topics

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate computer science and engineering courses during the academic year
  • Support the development, coordination, and continuous improvement of instructional materials and course content
  • Coordinate and oversee laboratory or recitation sections, as appropriate
  • Train, supervise, and provide guidance to graduate teaching assistants and undergraduate learning assistants
  • Foster an engaging, inclusive, and student-centered learning environment
  • Collaborate with faculty and instructional teams to support course delivery and curriculum objectives
  • Participate in service activities aligned with the department’s instructional mission
