About The Position

L3Harris’s Missile Solutions segment is seeking a Specialist Systems Engineer to specify requirements for propulsion systems. The segment designs, manufactures, and deploys advanced propulsion and energetics systems, including rocket motors, for customers such as the U.S. Department of Defense, NASA, and other domestic and international agencies and companies. The role focuses on developing and managing requirements for propulsion systems and uses model-based systems engineering tools. It requires a systems engineering background, attention to detail, and the ability to manage projects under general supervision. The position is onsite at the Canoga Park, California facility, follows a 9/80 schedule, and requires up to 10% travel. The employee must be able to obtain a U.S. Secret security clearance. The position develops system, subsystem, and component requirements for rocket propulsion product development; manages requirement derivation, allocation, documentation, changes, verification plans, compliance assessment, and certification; and coordinates with integrated product teams. It also involves functional analysis, system trade studies, architecture and concept-baseline selection, project risk and opportunity management, and communicating results to stakeholders. The role may include directing, coordinating, and reviewing the work of a small staff of engineers or technicians.

  • Experience with liquid rocket propulsion.
  • Advanced degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience with IBM DOORS and Model-Based Systems Engineering methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Develop comprehensive system requirements for the specification, design, and verification of propulsion systems, including applicable industry standards.
  • Develop system, subsystem, and component requirements for rocket propulsion product development; derive, allocate, and document requirements in databases and specifications.
  • Coordinate requirements and specification change management with integrated product team members.
  • Define and coordinate requirements verification plans, and plan and manage compliance assessment and certification.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure requirements are met during design and verification.
  • Perform functional analysis and coordinate system trade studies.
  • Coordinate selection of optimized concept baselines through benefit/cost trades in support of system architecture and objectives.
  • Coordinate project risk and opportunity assessment and management, and prepare and report mitigation plans.
  • Communicate results through written reports and oral presentations, and represent the organization in meetings and teleconferences to resolve questions and coordinate work.
  • May direct, coordinate, and review the work of a small staff of engineers and/or technicians; estimate personnel needs; and schedule and assign work to meet completion dates.
