About The Position

L3Harris is seeking a systems engineer to support development of a space-based Electro-Optical/Infrared (EO/IR) mission payload sensor system. The role performs broad systems engineering functions in support of payload design, development, integration, verification, and test. Multiple positions are available, and technical focus areas may vary with program needs and individual experience. Selected candidates will join a multidisciplinary engineering team supporting a sophisticated EO/IR payload. Work may include data management and analysis, algorithm development, requirements management and verification, model-based systems engineering (MBSE), and payload test support. The position is located in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and follows a 9/80 schedule. Eligibility to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance is required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 4 years of prior relevant experience; or a graduate degree and at least 2 years of prior related experience; or at least 8 years of prior related experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience in one or more systems engineering-related areas, such as requirements, verification, analysis, integration and test, technical documentation, or model-based engineering.
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with space-based EO/IR systems, remote sensing payloads, electro-optical systems, or related aerospace hardware.
  • Experience with requirements management tools such as DOORS, DOORS Next, Jama, or similar.
  • Experience with MBSE tools such as Cameo, MagicDraw, Capella, or similar.
  • Experience with engineering or test data analysis, including scripting or analytical tools.
  • Experience supporting algorithm development, modeling, simulation, or sensor data processing.
  • Experience with payload integration and test or system verification activities.
  • Experience working with interface documentation, verification matrices, or technical baselines.
  • Active security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Support systems engineering activities for a space-based EO/IR mission payload across development, integration, verification, and test phases.
  • Contribute to development, decomposition, allocation, and maintenance of system and subsystem requirements.
  • Support requirements traceability, verification planning, and verification closure activities.
  • Assist with development and maintenance of systems engineering artifacts, including specifications, interface documentation, verification matrices, technical plans, and trade study documentation.
  • Perform technical analyses supporting system design, performance evaluation, and mission compliance assessments.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in optics, focal plane, electronics, software, mechanical, thermal, integration and test, and mission operations engineering.
  • Support technical issue resolution, risk identification, discrepancy tracking, and change impact assessments.
  • Participate in system integration, test planning, test execution support, and post-test data review.
  • Support technical reviews and engineering lifecycle activities, including SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR, and related working groups.
  • Help maintain the technical baseline through disciplined documentation and configuration management practices.
