Group Benefits Technology team is seeking a highly motivated and skilled developer to be a part of a team of software engineers supporting the Electronic Commerce Processing, Internal Web Platforms, and Cashback applications within Nationwide Specialty Insurance. You’ll help stabilize and simplify critical NSI flows while advancing our move from Perl to Python and improving data quality and speed for our business partners. This hybrid position may be based in Columbus, OH or Des Moines, IA. Candidates located near a Nationwide campus will collaborate in office 2 days per week. Current Nationwide Remote Associates may also be considered. As a Software Engineer, you will focus primarily on providing high quality, efficient technology solutions to business partners by crafting new software applications or modifying and/or supporting existing packaged or custom-built applications. In this capacity, you’ll analyze, code, configure, test, debug, document and maintain applications. Analyzes, solutions, develops, tests, debugs, documents and deploys software according to standards in an agile environment. Applies secure software and systems engineering practices throughout the delivery lifecycle to ensure our data and technology solutions are protected from threats and vulnerabilities. Uses DevSecOps practices, tooling and techniques. Drives continuous improvement and learning through ongoing training, practice and innovation. Manages medium to large project priorities, deadlines and deliverables proactively. May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

Strong experience in Python (with ability to support legacy Perl during transition), SQL, and ETL/data pipelines.
Snowflake and Oracle
Secure coding practices and familiarity with PII/HIPPA/regulated data handling
Version control (Git/GitHub) and CI/CD (Harness, GitHub Actions)
Agile team experience and DevSecOps mindset
Effective communicator
Comfortable troubleshooting across app/data/integration layers
Completion of undergraduate studies in computer science, management information systems, or other related degree. Technology experience or non-traditional technology certificates can be substituted for an undergraduate degree.
Four or more years of analysis and technology experience.
Proficiency in one or more programming language such as Java, C++, Python, JavaScript.
Strong knowledge of software development lifecycle.
Proven ability to tackle complex business and development problems.
Ability to thrive in a team environment.
