About The Position

The payroll and taxation specialist is responsible for processing assigned payrolls accurately and within deadline; tracking faculty, staff and student employees’ attendance entries in the university’s time and attendance system; and reconciling monthly, quarterly and annual tax reporting. This role ensures that all computing of wages, withholdings and deductions for non-exempt employees is completed accurately and in a timely manner. The specialist will monitor payroll adjustments for all promotions, transfers, terminations and newly hired employees, and process manual checks as needed. A key responsibility is reconciling monthly, quarterly and annual tax reporting to ensure accuracy, processing yearly tax forms, and assisting faculty, staff, and student employees with making tax status and direct deposit changes in the payroll system. The role also involves answering questions and assisting in resolving employees’ payroll-related issues, maintaining metrics for overtime and timecard audits, and ensuring all timecards are completed, approved, and submitted for payroll processing. Compliance with all local, state, and federal tax regulations, reviewing and processing all payroll tax adjustments, and maintaining payroll-related files and records are also essential. The specialist will conduct various payroll audits as needed, assist approvers with time corrections, time-off entry, and any questions related to the timekeeping system, and assist with the investigation of problems reported by taxing agencies. The role also supports the mission of the university and serves as an ambassador of the Q2 culture of service excellence, modeling, supporting, and holding others accountable to the university’s values – integrity, dedication, excellence, creativity, and teamwork. Additionally, the specialist will assist employees and managers with questions about payroll policies and pay discrepancies and provide time tracking training to all student employee supervisors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of five years’ payroll experience preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with faculty, staff and colleagues
  • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously

Responsibilities
