About The Position

The L3Harris Space Superiority and Imaging site in Rochester, NY is an industry leader in the design and production of space and airborne based systems. This business produces cutting edge optical systems for many customers in both the commercial and military markets, as well as NASA. The Operations Organization is seeking a talented and creative Manufacturing Engineer to support several key programs. This position is crucial for the successful scaling and transformation of production processes to accommodate this rapid growth. This role will play a vital part in the lifecycle of our key programs, contributing to various aspects of technical manufacturing leadership and will influence decision-making processes, contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, and enhance the overall efficiency and effectiveness of our manufacturing operations. It will collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement efficient production strategies, ensuring that all projects meet their deadlines with the highest quality standards. Additionally, responsibilities will include optimizing manufacturing workflows, identify process improvements, and providing technical guidance and support to ensure the seamless execution of production activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electrical & Computer Engineering, Materials Engineering, Materials Science Engineering or related field and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.
  • A minimum of 3 years of prior relevant manufacturing experience
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. security clearance

Nice To Haves

  • Active security clearance is preferred
  • Knowledge and/or experience with Aerospace industry or Manufacturing Engineering producing PCBA or Cables.
  • Familiarity with ISO9001:2105 and or AS9100 quality management systems
  • Excellent communication, technical writing and presentation skills
  • Knowledge of and/or understanding circuit analysis, operational concepts of new product development.
  • Lean SixSigma green belt certification

Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute manufacturing engineering activities for the assembly, test and integration of electromechanical + optomechanical assemblies on assigned program(s).
  • Author written work instructions from technical documentation and create manufacturing procedures and routers.
  • Lead design changes by coordinating with design engineering to address technical, operational, and obsolescence issues.
  • Interface with technicians and other operations personnel throughout hardware integration and test.
  • Propose and lead process improvement projects focused on optimization of manufacturing processes.
  • Estimate and track manufacturing costs, use that data to initiate Continuous Improvement activities.
  • Support capacity planning, space layout requirements and risk reduction support for upcoming programs.
  • Lead root cause analysis for manufacturing issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional and cross-sector site located teams, including design engineering, quality assurance, supply chain, and production, to ensure product manufacturability and alignment with business objectives.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to early career professionals.
  • Partner with engineering, manufacturing, and quality to integrate design and process integrity processes such as xFMEAs and Statistical Process Control (SPC).
