The Nevada Bureau of Mines and Geology (NBMG) at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) is seeking a Specialist, Geologic Information. NBMG, the state geological survey for Nevada, focuses on collecting and disseminating geologic information related to the state's framework, natural resources, and hazards to promote public safety and sustainable development. The Great Basin Science Sample and Records Library (GBSSRL) within NBMG houses a unique collection of information and physical samples. The Geologic Information Specialist will provide essential support to the GBSSRL by managing and curating physical inventory, coordinating the accessioning of specimens and documents, and creating detailed metadata for data collections. This role involves collaboration with the Geoscience Data Manager, GBSSRL Project Coordinator, and others to ensure high-quality cataloging. The specialist will also work with NBMG employees and state agencies on research, data aggregation, and technical report writing to communicate geologic data to the public and industry professionals. Additionally, the position will manage outreach activities to inform user groups about GBSSRL's physical and digital datasets and provide customer service support.
