About The Position

The Environmental Specialist position is responsible for establishing and maintaining a comprehensive regulatory compliance program for air, waste, water, or groundwater compliance related aspects at the Lake Charles Chemicals Complex (LCCC). This role serves as the single point of contact for Business Units in environmental responsibilities, monitors state and federal regulatory developments, and assesses the impact of applicable regulatory requirements. The specialist will interact with various levels of personnel within operations, support groups, maintenance, and engineering to ensure a consistent understanding of regulatory requirements. They will act as a resource expert in one or more environmental media, manage projects that may involve contract employees and field activities, and develop, implement, and manage permit compliance and/or remediation strategies. Additionally, the role involves developing training materials, training personnel, providing necessary services to Business Units for regulatory compliance support, and building/maintaining good working relationships with regulatory agencies, acting as a liaison during inspections and representing the company in trade associations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Environmental Science or related field
  • 5+ years of environmental compliance/permitting in chemical or refinery industry experience
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills: Word, Excel, SAP, applicable reporting systems
  • Effective interpersonal skills; ability to communicate and motivate within all levels of the organization

  • Certified Environmental Professional or equivalent certificate preferred

Responsibilities

  • Works as the single point of contact for the Business Units in environmental responsibilities
  • Monitors state and federal regulatory developments (proposed and promulgated rule making, notices, etc.), trends (regulatory and intra‑company), and assess impacts of applicable regulatory requirements
  • Interacts with various levels in the Business Unit operations, support groups teams, maintenance, engineering and other plant personnel to ensure a consistent understanding of applicable regulatory requirements
  • Acts as the resource expert in one or more areas of environmental media
  • Manages projects that may involve additional professional level contract employees that may include field crews and field activities
  • Develops, implements, and manages permit compliance and/or remediation strategies
  • Develops training materials, interfaces with Training Department and trains personnel
  • Provides necessary services to Business Units to provide support in regulatory compliance
  • Ability to work in team setting on complex issues and effectively reach end goal
  • Builds and maintains good working relationships with regulatory agencies. Acts as liaison during agency inspections. Represents the company in trade association
