About The Position

Global Leadership Academy Charter School is seeking a passionate and creative Special Education Teacher to join their team. This role is responsible for providing direct instruction to students with disabilities, developing and managing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), and ensuring related services are provided. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, with the ability to analyze data, work with diverse populations, and effectively use technology in teaching. The position is a ten-month, salaried role within a culturally rich environment that emphasizes global education and aims to close the achievement gap.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with valid PA certification
  • Special Education Teaching Certification (preferred) or Emergency Certification Eligible

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct instruction to students identified with disabilities.
  • Develop and manage IEPs and related services for students.
  • Demonstrate strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrate good organizational ability.
  • Analyze raw data and develop goals for students.
  • Experience working with a diverse population including low to moderate-income families.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize duties.
  • Establish and accurately maintain a variety of files and record keeping systems.
  • Understand, communicate and implement oral and written instructions.
  • Fluidly use and incorporate technology into teaching.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Establish and maintain co-operative relationships with school personnel, students, parents, and the community.
  • Maintain regular attendance.
  • Teach personal development skills such as goal setting, independence, and self-advocacy.
  • Develop and implement strategies to meet the needs of students with a variety of handicapping conditions.
  • Prepare lesson plans and organize a meaningful instructional program.
  • Modify the general education curriculum for special-needs students, based upon a variety of instructional techniques and technologies.
  • Critically evaluate the educational achievements of students and give assignments according to their interests and ability.
  • Exercise patience, caring and concern in new and sometimes stressful situations.
  • Participate and receive coaching in your craft.
  • Travel, attend trips, and scheduled school events.
