About The Position

The Squamish Nation is seeking a Special Projects Intern to join X̱etx̱ítayus Ch'áwch'aw Corporate Services. This is a temporary (3-6 months), full-time position in North Vancouver. The intern will provide direct support on administrative operations, project coordination, communications, research, and organizational initiatives. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic Indigenous government environment while contributing to projects that support organizational effectiveness and service excellence across the Nation. It is an excellent opportunity for a student or recent graduate eager to learn, develop professional skills, and contribute to meaningful work supporting the Squamish Nation community.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a diploma, degree, or certificate program in Business Administration, Public Administration, Communications, Project Management, Human Resources, Commerce, or a related field.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and transferable experience may be considered.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 applications, including Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a collaborative team environment.
  • Professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment when handling confidential information.
  • Eagerness to learn, take initiative, and develop in a fast-paced professional environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous administrative, customer service, volunteer, student leadership, or project coordination experience is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw history, culture, customs, land, and people is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning, coordinating, and monitoring organizational projects and initiatives.
  • Track project timelines, deliverables, milestones, and status updates.
  • Conduct research and gather information to support project planning and decision-making.
  • Support project-related communications, follow-up activities, and documentation management.
  • Provide administrative support including scheduling, calendar management, and meeting coordination.
  • Prepare meeting materials, presentations, reports, correspondence, and briefing documents.
  • Maintain organized digital filing systems and accurate records.
  • Record meeting notes and track action items to support timely follow-up.
  • Coordinate meetings with internal departments, community partners, and external stakeholders.
  • Assist with logistics for workshops, events, meetings, and special projects.
  • Support communications, information sharing, and process improvement initiatives across departments.
  • Handle sensitive information with professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality.
