About The Position

As a Special Procedures Technologist, the individual is responsible for operating the imaging equipment and producing radiographs according to the standards and practices set forth by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist. The individual will assist the radiologist, physician, or surgeon to perform both diagnostic and interventional procedures. The individual will demonstrate knowledge of the human structure and functions, patient care, positioning, principles of radiographic sciences, radiation protection and specialized techniques unique to the Special Procedures environment.

Requirements

  • 2 years Diagnostic radiology experience.
  • Registered Technologist - ARRT Required
  • Licensed Radiology Technologist (LRT) - KSBHA Kansas license required within 60 days of hire.
  • Basic Life Support - BLS Required within 90 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a surgical area.
  • Previous operating room and/or interventional radiology experience.
  • Subspecialty experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge level of all diagnostic radiology procedures. (Required proficiency)

Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of technical procedures that will require independent judgment, with ingenuity and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis.
  • Able to operate the Orbic Arcadis 3D C-Arm.
  • Able to operate the AIRO Interoperative C-Arm.
  • Demonstrates proper prepping, draping technique.
  • Utilizes correct image technique.
  • Prepares and positions patient for diagnostic imaging procedures.
  • Cones and pans well to minimize patient and staff exposure.
  • Adjusts immobilization devices to obtain optimum views of specified area of body requested by physician.
  • Moves imaging equipment into specified position, determines exposure factors on basis of height, weight, portion of body involved, and degree of penetration required, and adjusts equipment controls to set exposure factors and produce images of proper detail, density, and accuracy.
  • Maintains scrubbing skills for all equipment and procedures.
  • Anticipates physician needs.
  • Sets up equipment and room for procedures.
  • Performs routine maintenance, diagnoses malfunctions, and makes minor repairs on radiologic equipment, arranging for repairs as needed.
  • Processes images and reviews for proper identification and quality control.
  • Prepares images for reading by radiologist or requesting physician.
  • When Special Procedure Technologist is in down time, they are expected to come back to the Main X-Ray Department to help the other Radiologic Technologists.
  • Contributes to a “team” atmosphere by demonstrating excellent communication skills and positive interactions.
  • Performs office work including, but not limited to, answering phone, filing, obtaining information from computer, and ordering departmental supplies.
  • Participates in on-call rotation to provide 24-hour availability for patients that require emergent imaging need.
  • Documents patient or device complications appropriately.
  • Measures and mixes barium and contrast media.
  • Keeps rooms stocked with appropriate supplies.
  • Assists radiologist in fluoroscopic and special x-ray examinations.
  • Completes forms and maintains records, logs, and reports of work performed.
  • Complies with all policies, standards, mandatory training and requirements of Stormont Vail Health
  • Performs other duties as assigned
