About The Position

Cedar Hill Regional Medical Center GW Health is opening in April 2025 as the first new full-service hospital in Washington, DC in over 25 years. This enhanced integrated delivery system aims to provide high-quality care to all District residents, particularly those in Wards 7 and 8. The hospital will feature 136 beds (expandable to 184), a verified trauma center, emergency departments, maternal health services, an ambulatory pavilion, a parking garage, and a helipad. We are seeking an experienced Special Procedures Technician - Interventional Radiology (Full-Time) who will play a crucial role in delivering safe, high-quality, image-guided care. This individual will assist the care team in minimally invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures by operating advanced imaging equipment, positioning patients, and preparing sterile fields. The technologist will support a variety of procedures including angiography, angioplasty, biopsies, and other interventional radiology techniques, emphasizing precision, efficiency, and patient safety. A strong commitment to patient safety, radiation protection, and adherence to standards is essential. Success requires technical expertise, critical thinking, and collaborative skills in a fast-paced procedural environment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalency
  • Associate’s degree in Radiologic Technology or related field required
  • Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program
  • ARRT (R) certification required
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification required
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Interventional Radiology, Special Procedures, or Cath Lab required
  • Experience assisting with image-guided procedures such as angiography, angioplasty, stent placement, and biopsies
  • Proficiency in operating fluoroscopy and advanced imaging equipment

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Advanced certification preferred: ARRT (VI) or Cardiovascular Interventional (CI)
  • Experience with moderate sedation procedures preferred

Responsibilities

  • Prepares procedure rooms, ensuring all equipment, supplies, and sterile instruments are available and functioning properly
  • Assists physicians and interventional radiologists during minimally invasive, image-guided procedures
  • Operates fluoroscopy and other advanced imaging equipment to produce high-quality diagnostic images
  • Positions patients accurately to optimize imaging results while ensuring comfort and safety
  • Maintains sterile technique and assists with the setup and breakdown of sterile fields
  • Monitors patients during procedures, including vital signs and overall condition, and reports changes promptly
  • Administers contrast media and medications as directed, in accordance with hospital policy and scope of practice
  • Ensures compliance with radiation safety standards, including proper shielding and dose minimization techniques
  • Documents procedures, patient information, and imaging results accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR)
  • Collaborates with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated and efficient patient care
  • Prepares and transports patients to and from procedures, providing education and reassurance as needed
  • Maintains and troubleshoots imaging equipment, reporting any malfunctions or service needs
  • Participates in on-call rotations and responds to emergency procedures as required
  • Adheres to all regulatory, accreditation, and infection prevention standards
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives and maintains required certifications and continuing education
