About The Position

The University of Miami Health System at Doral has an exciting opportunity for a Special Procedures Technologist 2. This is a Per Diem (PD) position with flexible scheduling, typically 8-30 hours per week, Monday through Friday. On-call duties and occasional weekends may be required. The role involves verifying patient identification, corroborating clinical history, assisting with patient interviews, and ensuring informed consent. Responsibilities include preparing patients for procedures, maintaining sterile techniques, assisting the radiologist, applying radiation protection principles, and positioning patients for examinations. The technologist will also assume care for patients' physical and psychological needs during procedures, initiate life support measures if necessary, and maintain knowledge of patient monitoring devices. Patient education in collaboration with other staff is also a component of this role, along with adherence to University and unit-level policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or equivalent
  • ARRT Certification
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience
  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Verifies the patient’s ID by checking their name and date of birth.
  • Corroborates patient's clinical history and ensures information is documented and available for use.
  • Assist with patient interviews before a procedure and documents all relevant information.
  • Ensures that the attending radiologist obtains the proper informed consent.
  • Prepares the patient for procedures to obtain desired results, gain cooperation, and minimize anxiety.
  • Notifies appropriate person of any change(s) in patients’ status.
  • Maintains proper sterile techniques for procedures and strictly practices aseptic technique.
  • Assists the radiologist throughout procedures with all the necessary supplies.
  • Applies principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patient, self, and others.
  • Positions the patient for the examination and obtains good technical quality scout film of the area before starting procedures.
  • Assumes care for physical and psychological needs of the patient during the procedure.
  • Initiates life support measures for patients and assists in cardiopulmonary resuscitation during medical emergencies.
  • Maintains working knowledge of all patient monitoring devices.
  • Provides patient education in collaboration with other department staff.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
