About The Position

The Cath Lab LRT assists the Cardiologist in the performance of Cath Lab procedures. Reports to the Cath Lab Manager. This role is responsible for adequate radiation protection for all team members, performing preventative maintenance and quality control testing on radiology-related equipment, and maintaining personnel monitoring devices. The technician will assist with scrubbing, circulation, and recording in the Cath Lab, practice sterile technique, and be skilled in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Responsibilities also include on-call coverage, documentation, and accurate data entry into the Medical Center's computer system. The role requires flexibility in staffing, effective working relationships, and assistance in scrubbing in the Electrophysiology Lab. Additionally, the technician will attend staff meetings and mandatory inservices, select and maintain Cath Lab equipment, maintain supply stock, operate equipment per manufacturer recommendations, clean the lab, keep work areas clear, prepare and position patients, assist in transporting patients, and orient/instruct other personnel. Participation in performance improvement activities and adherence to Quality in Action principles are expected. The role provides age-appropriate care and attends all mandatory educational programs. Requirements

  • Current NYS Radiology Technologist license.
  • ARRT certified.
  • Minimum of one year experience in radiology, cardiology preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days of hire date.
  • Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required within 1 year of hire date.

Nice To Haves

  • Cardiology experience preferred.
  • ALS required after 2 years employment.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for adequate radiation protection for all team members.
  • Performs preventative maintenance and quality control testing on all radiology related equipment (i.e. opaque media injector, and Cath Lab radiology system).
  • Maintains personnel monitoring devices and keeps records of readings.
  • Assists with scrubbing, circulation and recording in the Cath Lab per Cath Lab policies and physicians specific procedures.
  • Practices sterile technique and prevents cross-contamination.
  • Is skilled in Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
  • Responsible for on-call coverage with response time not to exceed 30 minutes.
  • Performs documentation duties on unit and in patient record, which is timely, accurate and concise.
  • Responsible for accurate and timely data entry into Medical Center's computer system for the purpose of procedures and accessory charges.
  • Remains flexible in staffing patterns and resolutions of staffing conflicts.
  • Formulates and uses effective working relationships with all health care team members, patients and SO.
  • Assists in scrubbing in Electrophysiology Lab.
  • Attends staff meetings and mandatory inservices.
  • Selects and maintains Cath Lab equipment to be used in procedures per physician specific procedures.
  • Maintains an adequate stock of supplies.
  • Operates opaque media injector per manufacture's recommendation.
  • Cleans lab following patient discharge per Cath Lab policies.
  • Keeps work rooms, equipment and accessories clear.
  • Prepares and positions patient correctly for specific examinations.
  • Assists in transporting patients.
  • Assists, orients and instructs other personnel in Cath Lab procedures.
  • Participates in unit, Department of Nursing, Operations Division and Radiology Performance Improvement activities as well as standards development.
  • Is familiar with and demonstrates Quality in Action principles and participates in the process as appropriate.
  • Provides age appropriate care to patient according to their age groups for the particular unit to which the individual is assigned.
  • Is responsible for attending all annual mandatory educational programs as required by position.
  • Understands and demonstrates the importance of satisfying the needs of the customer/patient by interacting with him/her in a friendly and caring way, being attentive to the customer's needs, both psychologically and physically, and by taking the initiative to maintain communication with the customer in order to provide a secure and pleasant experience with the Medical Center.
