About The Position

This position determines the patient's x-ray needs by reading requests or instructions from physicians. The technologist assists physicians or other Rad Techs in the performance of more complex procedures. They position the patient on the examining table and set up and adjust equipment to obtain an optimum view of a specific body area as requested by the physician. Procedures are explained to patients to reduce anxieties and obtain cooperation. Records of patients examined, examinations performed, patient medical histories, views taken, and technical factors used are collected and maintained. The x-ray room is prepared and set up for the patient, ensuring sterile and non-sterile supplies are present and in working order. X-ray equipment is positioned and controls are adjusted to set exposure factors, such as time and distance. Quality control activities are completed, equipment operation is monitored, and equipment issues are reported to the manager. The work of other Rad Techs is coordinated when procedures require more than one person. General administrative tasks such as answering telephones, scheduling patients, or pulling films are also performed.

Requirements

Associates Degree in Radiology Technology
Current ARRT certification
Two to four years of experience with special procedures in a hospital or clinic environment.
Knowledge of routine fluoroscopy and examinations of the head and extremities under the supervision of a physician.
Knowledge of examination protocols.
Knowledge of HIPAA and OSHA rules and regulations related to Radiology and health care.
Knowledge of safety requirements within the department.
Skill in production of radiology exams
Skill in obtaining patient information via the computer.
Skill in maintaining professional relationships with patients, family members, and the public.
Skill in using film processors.
Ability to effectively care for patients
Ability to communicate clearly to patients, family members, and staff.
Ability to maintain professional relationships with providers
Ability to perform administrative tasks.
