About The Position

Be a part of an innovative and collaborative team driving a safer transportation system for Arizona. Join this unique division that maintains the safety and compliance of our transportation network around the state at our borders. This role performs statewide, national, and international investigations of a highly complex nature involving multiple criminal offenses, working with a high degree of independence. Reviews allegations, complaints or other information to determine criminal offenses that may have been committed. Conducts investigations, including but not limited to; theft, fraud, embezzlement, forgery, conspiracy, fraudulent schemes, political corruption, etc. Confers with prosecuting attorneys regarding progress of investigations, quality of case files and evidence, drafts subpoenas, warrants, etc. Prepares affidavits to obtain search warrants, arrest warrants, wiretaps, physical characteristic court orders. Background check and In-state travel is required. This position may be available for remote work within Arizona (3 days per week in the office/hoteling, 1 day remote). The State of Arizona strives for a work culture that affords employees flexibility, autonomy, and trust. All work, including remote work, should be performed within Arizona unless an exception is properly authorized in advance. This position is eligible for a $4,000 hiring incentive.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of pertinent State and Federal motor vehicle laws, rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of modern law enforcement methods, best practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Search and Seizure rules of evidence and custody of prisoners.
  • Knowledge of Defensive tactics.
  • Knowledge of First Aid, CPR.
  • Knowledge of Court systems, procedures and protocols.
  • Knowledge of Activity reporting and accounting procedures established for the work system.
  • Knowledge of Principles of report writing.
  • Having previously served as a certified peace officer in Arizona, another state, or federal agency, and meet all of the minimum qualifications for certification as an Arizona Peace Officer.
  • Skills in interpreting relevant State and Federal motor vehicle laws, rules and regulations.
  • Skills in eliciting factual information and drawing valid conclusions.
  • Skills in establishing and maintaining effective relationships with staff members and the general public.
  • Skills in use and care of firearms.
  • Skills in operate police equipment in emergency situations.
  • Skills in exercise discretion in use of force.
  • Skills in problem solving and using good judgment.
  • Skills in spreadsheet and document platforms (Google, Microsoft).
  • Have completed the basic and advanced training that demonstrates substantial comparability to the Arizona Basic course.
  • Ability to prepare clear and concise reports.

  • Ability to prepare executive level correspondence and reports, and the ability to brief command on complex issues.
  • Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training (AZPOST) Full Authority certifications.
  • Weapons certified in accordance with AZPOST standards.
  • Individuals who have served honorably as a peace officer in Arizona and their certification has lapsed, or served in another State may be eligible to gain Arizona POST certification through Waiver Testing.
  • PAT is required for all Waiver Testing.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Minimum of 3-years in an investigative or detective unit.
  • Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks.
  • The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended.
  • Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training.
  • An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).
  • All newly hired State employees are subject to and must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing information and documents; monitor, triage, analyzing data, planning case strategy, maintaining case files and evidence; preparing case reports.
  • Assign incoming tips and leads.
  • Perform administrative duties to assist ECD and OIG leadership.
  • Responsibility to maintain and answer a company provided cell phone.
  • Interviewing victims, witnesses and suspects on the phone or in person.
  • Travel as required, including state, interstate and international that may require overnight stay.
  • Engage in undercover investigation operations, conducting surveillance of case suspects, investigative activity with other local, state and federal agencies.
  • Preparing and serving search warrants; conducting searches; seizing and securing evidence.
  • Serving arrest warrants; physically arresting suspects and booking suspects into jail.
  • Support OIG detectives with investigations and manage low-level cases as workload permits.
