About The Position
Intertek is seeking a Special Inspector to join its Building & Construction team in Miami, Florida. The role performs field inspections and construction materials testing to verify that work conforms to construction plans and specifications. It also involves preparing daily inspection reports and testing data sheets. The inspector performs testing, project-specific observations, and inspection duties under general supervision, and communicates findings to clients and project teams. The position requires attention to safety and may involve off shifts and overtime.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of special inspection and/or construction materials testing experience.
- Basic math, calculator, and computer skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to read and understand work plans.
- Ability to work off shifts and overtime.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable driving record.
- External or task-related certifications may be required depending on region and state.
Nice To Haves
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
- ACI, ICC, and/or PTI certifications, including ACI Level I, ACI Concrete Construction Special Inspector, ICC Reinforcing Steel Inspector, ICC Reinforced Concrete Masonry Inspector, ICC Soil Inspector, and PTI Certified Post-Tension Inspector Levels 1 and 2.
Responsibilities
- Perform field inspections and construction materials testing to ensure conformance with construction plans and specifications.
- Prepare inspection daily reports and testing data sheets.
- Perform testing, project-specific observations, and inspection duties under general supervision.
- Operate testing equipment and conduct tests, such as soil and concrete testing, and report assessments of the data.
- Work with drawings, specifications, diagrams, and work plans; read and interpret plans and specifications.
- Use specified methods to observe site activities and perform inspection tasks.
- Maintain and calibrate standard equipment.
- Attend project meetings.
- Make detailed observations and interpret results.
- Maintain detailed documentation and test-result data.
- Calculate mathematical test results using a calculator.
- Communicate effectively with clients and project teams.
- Follow safety practices and policies to protect oneself and others.
