About The Position

The Special Funds Accountant is responsible for managing and monitoring daily financial operations related to special funds, revenue, deposits, electronic payments and other assigned financial activities. The position manages all daily bank deposits and electronic payment activity. Prepare AR billings for past-due customer accounts, process the monthly telecommunications bill and coordinate distribution to departments. Oversee the administration of special funds, block grants, federal cash, and indirect cost recovery. Reconcile internal financial records with Cardinal revenue and expenditure data to ensure accuracy and compliance. Provide timely and accurate financial information to management to support strategic resource allocation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, business administration, or related field preferred or equivalent experience.
  • Experience using and implementing Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and governmental accounting policies and procedures for business needs.
  • Knowledge of governmental (state/federal) financial management and reporting requirements.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the state accounting system Cardinal.
  • Ability to prepare reports, use spreadsheets and pivot tables, to perform reconciliations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Knowledge of grant rules and regulations.
  • High degree of accuracy and the ability to prioritize to meet timelines.
  • Competent with organizing documents and filing both electronically and manually for quick accessibility.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing and able to collect data and prepare reports.

Nice To Haves

  • License as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
  • Experience in indirect cost allocation methodologies.
  • Prior experience in data input, accounting to include accounts receivable, and billing operations.
