About The Position

Under general supervision, the position is responsible for planning, coordinating and implementing events. Duties include coordinating logistical details, ensuring all aspects of events are effectively arranged, and supporting the successful execution of assigned activities. The role requires attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks to ensure events are carried out efficiently and in accordance with established objectives.

Requirements

  • Ability to carry out event plans efficiently, ensuring all activities are executed as scheduled.

  • Ability to incorporate requests from management and/or City Council into event concepts.
  • Ability to identify and resolve lighting, water, and transportation issues and evaluate risk and liability.
  • Ability to coordinate and schedule meetings with Council members, Department Directors, or their representatives to review event plans.
  • Ability to track expenses in coordination with management, Council assistants, or Finance.
  • Ability to keep track of purchased items.
  • Ability to evaluate the success of events, identify issues that occurred, and recommend improvements.
  • Ability to evaluate vendors, sponsors, and partners.
  • Ability to keep open communication with council partners.
  • Ability to evaluate event marketing effectiveness.
  • Ability to project a positive and professional image of the City of Laredo.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to take and follow directions from supervisor.
  • Ability to give directions to and gain compliance from assigned staff.
  • Ability to perform strenuous work and routine work.
  • Ability to maintain a valid Texas Driver License and a good driving record.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing in the English language and orally in the Spanish language.
  • Ability to comply with all City of Laredo's policies and procedures.
  • Ability to maintain good health and physical condition sufficient to permit the full performance of the duties of this position.
  • Associate's degree in Management, Marketing, or Business Administration.
  • At least three (3) years of experience in management or administration.
  • Valid Texas Driver License. If applicant holds an out-of-state license, a State of Texas Driver License must be obtained within 6 months of employment.
  • Thorough background check and certified school transcripts will be required from all applicants who are offered employment.
  • Drug and alcohol test prior to employment.
  • Subject to random drug and alcohol testing for safety-sensitive functions/positions.
  • Must be able to function in a principle-based organization that has a culture built on character and core values.

Nice To Haves

  • Foreign credential evaluation completed by a professional credential evaluation agency that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) or the Association of International Credential Evaluators (AICE) if education was completed outside of the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Manages event budgets and oversees purchasing activities.
  • Review completed events and keep open contacts with all involved in the events.
  • Will be required to drive a City vehicle for City business use.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
