About The Position

The North Carolina Aquariums at Fort Fisher is seeking a dynamic, efficient, and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Special Events Coordinator. This position reports directly to the Aquarium Director and is responsible for coordinating and conducting a year-round schedule of events, both on and off-site, and rentals for the Aquarium facility. These events will promote the Aquarium, increase attendance, and generate revenue. The coordinator will work with all departments within the Aquarium and will be able to interpret Aquarium exhibits to rental clients. The NC Aquarium at Fort Fisher is under construction and will be closed for a major expansion for approximately 30 months. While the Aquarium is closed, the Special Events Coordinator will report to a satellite location at Independence Mall in Wilmington, NC. During closure, this position will focus heavily on organizing and executing Aquarium involvement in community events as well as coordinating Aquarium events at alternative locations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from appropriately accredited institution AND one year of experience related to the area of assignment; OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Must meet DNCR Fleet Safety Guidelines and have ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver's license issued from within the United States or be able to obtain one within 90 days of employment.
  • Must be able to work indoors and outdoors as needed.
  • Must have the ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.

  • Experience in planning and scheduling events with emphasis on working with weddings and corporate rentals, including working with associated vendors.
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience.
  • Experience in marketing, social media, and customer service.
  • Demonstrated experience with sales and budgeting.
  • Experience in sales contract management.
  • Experience in planning and collaborating with community organizations with an emphasis on festivals and family friendly events

Responsibilities

  • Market, promote, schedule, and manage activities including after business hour events
  • A/V use, table set-up, staging, and other elements of events will be performed and managed
  • Responsible for the collection of fiscal data including rental and event revenue, program participation, and client evaluation
  • Inform and recommend a budget for positions, programming, marketing, equipment, and materials, and to reflect Aquarium contributions to DNCR environmental and education initiatives, based on data
