About The Position

The Special Events Coordinator supports the Brownsville Convention and Visitors Bureau’s mission to promote tourism and elevate Brownsville as a premier destination. This role will focus on developing, coordinating, and executing Visit Brownsville’s signature events including but not limited to Space Fest, Charro Days Classic, Birding Festival, Concert Series while also engaging in community outreach and local representation at strategic events. Under the supervision of the CVB Director and Assistant Director, the Coordinator will work closely with city departments, vendors, and community stakeholders to ensure the success and visibility of Brownsville’s cultural, tourism, and destination events. Additionally, this position will support the City’s Film Commission efforts by assisting with the attraction, coordination, permitting, and management of film, television, commercial, and digital media productions in Brownsville. The Coordinator will work closely with city departments, vendors, production teams, and community stakeholders to ensure the success and visibility of Brownsville’s cultural, tourism, destination, and film-related initiatives. This position may provide oversight and continuity for select tourism-related programs, activities, partnerships, and operational responsibilities to ensure uninterrupted service and support of departmental objectives.

Requirements

  • An associate’s degree in Event Management, Marketing, Communications, Tourism, or a related field is required.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of relevant work experience is required.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • The City of Brownsville requires all employees to successfully pass a Drug & Alcohol and a physical examination and a Background Check.

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and execute signature events hosted by the Brownsville Convention & Visitor’s Bureau (CVB) (also known as Visit Brownsville), including logistics, programming, and follow-up evaluation.
  • Represent Visit Brownsville at community events, strategic partner activities, and promotional opportunities to strengthen local engagement.
  • Collaborate with local organizations, nonprofits, schools, and businesses to expand community outreach and ensure inclusive participation.
  • Work closely with the CVB marketing team to promote events, including social media and advertising support.
  • Assist with procurement, vendor management, and contract coordination to ensure events remain within budget with the support of the CVB Administrative.
  • Serve as a liaison between city departments to streamline permits and event operations.
  • Maintain accurate records of event performance, attendance, community feedback, and tourism impact.
  • Support the development of new tourism-oriented events and programs that highlight Brownsville’s culture, history, and diversity.
  • Provide on-site support during major events, including setup, breakdown, volunteer coordination, and hospitality management.
  • Monitor trends in event planning, tourism, and community engagement to propose innovative ideas for future CVB initiatives.
