The Special Education Teaching Assistant works under the direct supervision of the special education teacher and under the broad supervision of the building principal. This role involves providing assistance to students to help develop their independence, carrying out lessons, adapting academic programming, and following behavioral plans. The assistant also helps maintain the classroom environment, assists with clerical tasks, promotes positive behaviors and social interactions, and monitors student needs throughout the school day. They may also provide programs for students off school property, record data, participate in meetings, and assist with student hygiene and medical needs.
