About The Position

Special Education Teacher - Ponderosa Middle School - Starting the 2026-2027 School Year. This role involves providing research-based specialized instruction to students with diverse needs, developing and implementing Individualized Educational Program (IEP) plans, and collaborating with instructional staff, parents, and community resources to improve student outcomes. The teacher will also conduct special education evaluations, provide direction to educational assistants, and participate in various school meetings. Responsibilities include preparing written materials to document student progress and serving as the primary special education contact for parents. The position requires administering first aid and assistance to medically fragile children, reporting incidents, and complying with all district and state policies and reporting requirements.

Requirements

  • Hold or qualify for an Oregon teaching license through Teacher Standards and Practices Commission with the proper endorsement/authorization and be considered highly qualified by the Oregon Department of Education.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach students to be successful learners through student teaching, internship or temporary/regular teaching experience.
  • Special Education Teaching Endorsement, required.
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification, required.
  • Must hold a valid first aid card.
  • Will perform the duties as required by the Teachers Standards and Practices Commission (OAR 584-20-000 to 035).
  • Read, understand and carry out oral and/or written instructions.
  • Will accurately transfer, record and convey information, materials and money, as required by the position.
  • Must communicate clearly and appropriately in speech and in writing in accordance with educational standards.
  • Must complete all required special education forms and processes within specific time lines.
  • Possess the physical ability to regularly attend work and fulfill the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Will adhere to the federal requirements of a drug-free workplace.
  • Clearance of Pre-Employment Drug Screen.

Responsibilities

  • Provide research-based specialized instruction to address the instructional goals and objectives contained within each student’s IEP.
  • Assess student progress towards objectives, expectations, and/or goals for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents and administration.
  • Develop and implement annual Individualized Educational Program (IEP) plans for students.
  • Provides consultation to classroom teachers regarding classroom adaptions, instructional modifications, adaptive equipment, behavior modification plans and other similar instructional interventions to meet the needs of students with disabilities.
  • Collaborate with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents and a variety of community resources for the purpose of improving the overall quality of student outcomes, achieving established classroom objectives in support of the school improvement plan.
  • Prepare a variety of written materials for the purpose of documenting student progress and meeting mandated requirements.
  • Serve as primary special education contact for the parent.
  • Conduct special education evaluations and reevaluations in collaboration with district evaluation team.
  • Provide direction, supervision and evaluation of educational assistants as directed.
  • Participates in and/or coordinates a variety of meetings for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
  • Administer, under supervision, first aid and assistance to medically fragile children for the purpose of providing appropriate care for children as assigned.
  • Report incidents for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment and adhering to Education Code and school policies.
  • Comply with School Board policies and all state/federal rules and regulations.
  • Complete all district and state reporting requirements.
