About The Position

This role involves supervising youth to observe and effect changes in their social behavior, maintaining security, and stimulating interest in classes and activities. The teacher will prepare evaluations through Individual Service Plans (ISP) and Individualized Education Programs (IEP), report significant changes in educational and social behavior, and make recommendations for plan changes. Responsibilities include preparing individualized learning plans, instructing youth with in-depth attention as needed, maintaining proper norms and security, and providing crisis intervention. Effective communication, both orally and in writing, is essential for conveying information within the classroom, in logs, youth charts, and to relevant outside agencies, including parents. The teacher will assess each student's learning style, design and implement curriculum, instructional strategies, and materials appropriate for the youth, and provide a motivating learning environment. Ensuring student attendance and checking normative behavior are key. All necessary paperwork for recording student progress, including daily attendance and progress reports, must be completed. Emergency lesson plans for substitutes are required. The role also includes contributing to a positive and productive work environment and performing other assigned duties. Adherence to HIPAA regulations regarding Protected Health Information is mandatory.

Requirements

Minimum age of 21
Certified by the State Board of Education
Title I Teachers should be certified in Reading 7-12
Must be able to use standard office equipment
Must be able to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time
Must be able to physically restrain students if necessary
Valid Arizona driver license
Individual judgment, discretion and decision making
Special Education Certification
Ability to obtain a Level 1 Fingerprint clearance card (or have a current valid level 1 fingerprint card)
Related experience in providing education to adolescents with special needs

Responsibilities

Supervise youth to observe or effect changes in their social behavior and maintain security.
Stimulate interest and cooperation in individual and group classes and activities.
Observe youth behavior in response to treatment efforts.
Prepare periodic and special evaluations through the Individual Service Plan (ISP) and IEP on assigned youth.
Report significant changes in educational and social behavior and make recommendations for plan changes.
Prepare individualized learning plans and instruct groups of youth, providing in-depth attention as necessary.
Maintain proper norms and security of youth and provide crisis intervention.
Communicate all appropriate information orally and in writing, including to relevant outside agencies and parents.
Assess each student’s learning style, design and implement curriculum, instructional strategies, and materials.
Provide a learning environment to motivate youth.
Ensure attendance of students in all classes and other activities and check on normative behavior.
Complete all necessary paperwork for proper recording of student progress, including daily attendance records and progress reports.
Maintain emergency lesson plans for use by substitutes.
Contribute to a positive and productive work environment.
Adhere to policy and practice concerning creation, editing, transmission, storage, and disposition of all Protected Health Information in compliance with HIPAA.
