About The Position

The Special Education Teacher will engage students in learning, manage student behavior in a positive, proactive, and constructive manner to provide a safe and optimal learning environment. The role involves preparing students to become productive, responsible citizens through positive engagement and modeling. This position requires creating a flexible program and class environment conducive to learning and personal growth, establishing effective rapport with students, and meeting individual student needs. The teacher will motivate students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge for a strong educational foundation, and foster positive relationships with students, parents, and staff. Responsibilities include supervising students, developing lesson plans, delivering instruction within curriculum guidelines, and providing accommodations and modifications for diverse learners, including those mandated by IEPs, 504 plans, or other legal documents. Collaboration with colleagues and responsiveness to inquiries from students and parents are also key. The role aims to create and support a culture that empowers students and encourages inclusivity for all children.

  • Create a flexible program and class environment favorable to learning and personal growth
  • Establish effective rapport with students, seek to meet individual student needs
  • Motivate students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for continuing education
  • Establish positive relationships with students, parents and other staff members
  • Supervise students within assigned areas and as needed
  • Develop Lesson plans
  • Deliver group and individual student instruction within established curriculum guidelines
  • Provide diverse learners with accommodations and modifications to ensure learning
  • At a minimum provide the legally required modifications and accommodations as outlined in each child’s IEP, 504 plan, Health Care Plan or other legally mandated document
  • Collaborate with other teachers, administrators to address instructional and/or classroom issues
  • Respond to a wide range of inquiries from students, parents, and guardians regarding the instructional program and student progress
  • Create and support a culture that empowers students
  • Encourage a culture of inclusiveness and support for all children
