The Special Education Teacher is responsible for identifying the educational needs of day treatment patients, functioning as a member of a multidisciplinary treatment team in matters relating to educational programming and transition planning. This role involves providing individualized and group education, classroom skills assessment, academic skills evaluation, educational programming, and transition planning. The teacher also provides educational counseling services and recommendations to parents regarding their children's educational needs. They participate in transition planning with the Special Education Supervisor, clinical staff, parents, and receiving school personnel for patient discharge. Candidates without a Colorado Special Education Teaching License are eligible to complete an alternative licensure program, with Mount Saint Vincent supporting this path and providing mentorship from the Special Education Director and Supervisor.
