About The Position

The purpose of the Special Education Teacher is to provide specialized education and individualized support to students with disabilities in a correctional facility, enabling their academic growth, successful transition, and overall empowerment. This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.

Requirements

A bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college/university.
Possess or be eligible to apply for a Temporary Florida Department of Corrections Educator’s Certificate or a temporary State of Florida Educator's Certificate.
Pass the Exceptional Student Education (K12) Subject Area Exam within 12 months of hire.
Pass a Level 2 background check.
Be a U.S. citizen or authorized to work in the U.S.

Nice To Haves

Master's degree (may be eligible for salary incentives).
Possession of a temporary or professional teaching certificate (may be eligible for a hiring bonus).

Responsibilities

Provide special education services and teaching academic subjects to students with disabilities in a correctional facility.
Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students with disabilities.
Conduct IEP meetings and maintain meticulous documentation.
Conduct transition planning, make referrals, and coordinate with institutional staff and external agencies.
Deliver specialized instruction, assist teachers with accommodations and modifications, and closely monitor student progress.
Participate in professional development activities and maintain Professional Educator Certification with an Exceptional Student Education endorsement.
