The Special Education Teacher will engage students in learning, manage student behavior in a positive, proactive, and constructive manner to provide a safe and optimal learning environment. The role involves preparing students to become productive, responsible citizens through positive engagement and modeling. The teacher will create a flexible program and class environment conducive to learning and personal growth, establish effective rapport with students, and seek to meet individual student needs. Motivation of students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge for a strong educational foundation is key. Establishing positive relationships with students, parents, and staff, and supervising students within assigned areas are also important aspects of the role. The teacher will develop lesson plans, deliver group and individual instruction within curriculum guidelines, and provide accommodations and modifications for diverse learners, including legally required ones for IEPs, 504 plans, Health Care Plans, or other mandated documents. Collaboration with colleagues and administrators to address instructional or classroom issues, responding to inquiries from students, parents, and guardians, and fostering a culture of empowerment, inclusiveness, and support for all children are also expected.
