About The Position

The Special Education Teacher works collaboratively with Specialists, Teachers and Instructional Assistants to support student’ progress by coordinating on lesson planning (differentiation), sharing data, team teaching and providing information and materials to families. Through excellent communication, organizational skills and great energy the Special Ed Teacher supports the academic and personal growth of our students, while making sure all students are successful and develop strong characters. The Special Ed Teacher makes sure the students understand the school wide expectations and policies while consistently asking the students to follow the outlined expectations for common areas within the school. In addition the Special Ed Teacher supports staff in the scheduled arrival, mealtime and dismissal duties.

  • A Master’s degree in Education or relevant content area (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Support the creation and revision of IEP goals and maintain updated IEP Documentation
  • Provide students with IEPs the appropriate learning experiences based on IEP goals, by coordinating with team teachers on lesson plans
  • Provide families with progress reports monthly and quarterly report cards based on individual IEPs goals
  • Contact families via telephone or face to face to inform on student’s progress and keep an updated log of the contact
  • Participate in CSE process by collecting, reviewing and requesting student CSE referral information from teachers
  • Ensure the CSE process is followed and updates on student’s progress are recorded
  • Provide push-in and push-out support for students with IEPs
  • Ensure that the appropriate teachers maintain an updated IEP documentation
  • Interact with SPED service providers as initial liaison and provide necessary information to administration
  • Participate in IEP annual and triennial reviews at the CSE
  • Meet all test and data reporting deadlines
  • Maintain anecdotal and formal evaluative records (checklists, anecdotal notes, quiz/test, etc.)
  • Participate actively in weekly grade level team planning meeting by planning units of study and weekly lessons collaboratively with team teacher(s), specialist and administrators
  • Attend all faculty meetings

  • Annual salary range: $64k- $100k depending on experience.
