About The Position

Nexus-Woodbourne Family Healing is seeking a Special Education Math Teacher. The Woodbourne Campus is located on a historic site in Baltimore, Maryland, with a history of helping youth for over 200 years. Nexus Family Healing, a national mental health organization, affiliated with the location in 2012, bringing innovative trauma-informed practices to the youth of Baltimore. Requirements

  • Bachelors’ degree
  • Maintain and hold a Valid State teaching licensure/certification or be eligible for a State educator certificate in a specific content area for secondary teachers (1-8, 6-adult or K-12).
  • Middle School teachers must hold or be eligible to hold an appropriate State certification in elementary education and/or grades 1-8 in special education if teaching special education students.
  • Must have a bachelor’s degree and hold or be eligible for a State educator certificate (Social Studies 7-12, History 7-12).
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Must meet state regulating agency and Home Office driving requirements.
  • Must be able to assist staff in physical interventions and restraints of clients.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time (2-4 hours).
  • Must be able to twist, bend and stretch in a manner conducive to the execution of daily activities within a residential treatment facility.
  • All client-facing Nexus employees must successfully participate and complete a Handle With Care behavior intervention method exam and training.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred in specific content area such as Math or Math Education.
  • Teaching experience is preferred.
  • Calculus at the AP level strongly preferred.
  • Content area social studies, degree in history or English degree.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct instruction and instructional support to students with disabilities in general education inclusion settings, often in a co-teaching role with general education teachers.
  • Collaborates with general education teachers to implement evidenced-based co-teaching practices, including seamless planning, delivery, and assessment of instruction.
  • Completes academic testing and report writing for initial and triennial evaluations.
  • Prepares and monitors the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Provides parents with progress reports on IEP goals and objectives.
  • Prepares for IEP team meetings for inclusion and self-contained students, providing case management.
  • Interprets formal and informal assessments to make informed decisions about student needs.
  • Collects data on student performance to improve outcomes and direct instruction.
  • Selects, adapts, and modifies materials to help students with disabilities access the general education curriculum and align with IEP goals.
  • Ensures IEP compliance with timelines for IEPs, triennial reviews, and evaluations.
  • Participates in professional development to enhance knowledge in instruction, best practices, differentiated instruction, and educational policy changes.
  • Coordinates the schedule of Para-educators assigned to the classroom.
  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in designated locations and times.
  • Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to student maturity and interests.
  • Plans and supervises assignments for para-educators, teacher assistants, 1:1 dedicated aides, Therapeutic Behavioral Aides (TBA), and volunteers.
  • Prepares for classes and shows written evidence of preparation upon request.
  • Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Guides the learning process towards curriculum goals and establishes clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects, communicating these to students.
  • Strives to implement the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals.
  • Assesses student accomplishments regularly and provides progress reports.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
  • Assists administration in implementing policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
  • Develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and maintains classroom order fairly.
  • Collaborates with administrators, other teachers, school assistants, related service providers, families, and others as necessary.
  • Remains current on and adheres to all company policies, assigned trainings, and certification requirements.
  • Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
  • Incorporates modifications, accommodations, Universal Design for Learning, and differentiation to address diverse learning needs.
  • Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
