About The Position

The School is a mission-driven learning environment dedicated to supporting students with diverse learning needs, particularly those on the autism spectrum. We are seeking a passionate and skilled Special Education Teacher to lead a classroom program serving students with moderate to severe learning needs. This role blends instructional leadership, case management, and team collaboration to deliver high-quality, individualized education. You will play a key role in developing and implementing IEPs, guiding classroom staff, and creating a supportive environment where students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Requirements

  • Valid California Education Specialist Credential
  • Authorization in Moderate/Severe or Mild/Moderate with Autism
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Education, Psychology, or related field
  • Experience teaching in a special education classroom
  • Experience working with students on the autism spectrum or with developmental disabilities
  • Experience participating in IEP development and implementation
  • Strong understanding of child development and behavioral strategies
  • Experience with data collection and progress monitoring
  • Excellent communication and team leadership skills
  • Ability to adapt instruction to meet diverse student needs
  • Collaborative, proactive, and solutions-oriented mindset

Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging, standards-based instruction aligned with California Core Content Standards
  • Support students in developing academic, functional, and life skills
  • Use data-driven strategies to monitor progress and adjust instruction
  • Develop, implement, and manage Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
  • Conduct assessments, write reports, and track student progress
  • Collaborate with service providers, families, and district partners
  • Lead and support a team of Teaching Assistants
  • Create structured daily schedules and classroom systems
  • Provide coaching, feedback, and ongoing staff development
  • Partner with families and multidisciplinary teams
  • Participate in meetings, committees, and school initiatives
  • Maintain consistent communication with caregivers and stakeholders
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and engaging classroom environment
  • Manage classroom resources, materials, and budget
  • Support the overall mission and culture of The School
