About The Position

Salem Public Schools is seeking a Special Education Teacher for the FLARE Program at Collins Middle School for the 2026-2027 school year. Salem Public Schools is an urban district committed to fostering a sense of belonging and providing opportunities for nearly 4,000 students across 11 schools. The role involves collaborative work, including co-teaching and intensive skills development, adapting materials, and collaborating with various stakeholders to improve student outcomes. This includes developing solutions, planning curriculum, collecting data, and creating Individual Education Programs (IEPs). The teacher will analyze data to inform instruction, implement reading comprehension programs, use innovative instructional strategies and technology, and prepare students for success. They will also provide resources and modeling to classroom staff and present evidence of student progress through reports and team meetings, offering engaging activities aligned with Common Core standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree (required)
  • Required Massachusetts teaching certification/licensure in Special Education (preferred)
  • Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Endorsement (Required within 1-year of start date)
  • Ability to meet the expectations of the Massachusetts Standards and Indicators of Effective Teaching Practice
  • Ability to write an effective IEPs with SMART goals, functional Transition Plans and sensible accommodations, using district software
  • Ability to administer, interpret, and report findings from standardized and informal evaluations and observational data collection
  • Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district, and/or in self-selected professional growth activities
  • Proficiency with technology (blended learning, teacher/family communication suites (Remind preferred), Google G-Suite Apps, etc.) desirable
  • Safety Care Training Certification (District will provide training)
  • Experience teaching experience and working in an urban public school or charter school setting preferred.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Bilingual candidates and candidates of color strongly encouraged to apply
  • Second language (Spanish and/or Portuguese) proficiency a plus
  • Current authorization to work in the United States

Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively in environments, including co-teaching and intensive skills development
  • Modify/adapt materials and instructional lessons to meet the specific needs of students
  • Collaborate with school personnel, parents, and community agencies to improve the quality of student outcomes, develop solutions, plan curriculum, collect data and create Individual Education Programs (IEP) for students
  • Analyze data to inform instruction and improve student performance
  • Experience implementing reading comprehension programs
  • Use innovative approaches and instructional strategies, including the effective use of technology, to increase student learning and confidence
  • Prepare students for success
  • Provide classroom staff with resources, tools, and modeling of techniques
  • Present evidence of student progress toward goals and objectives through regular progress reports & team meetings
  • Offer activities and instruction that will allow students of all levels to successfully engage in instruction using the Common Core standards as a framework
