About The Position

This is a full-time, 37.5-hour per week, exempt position. The Special Education Teacher works under the direction of the School Director. The Special Education Teacher, collaborating with the team, develops the IEP and provides specialized instruction to meet the unique needs of students.

Requirements

  • Must pass a variety of background checks
  • Knowledge of special education curriculum and I.E.P. development
  • Experience working with children and adolescents in a special education environment
  • Experience working with persons with autism
  • Strong belief in positive behavioral supports and healthy boundaries
  • Knowledge of Special Education teacher requirements in CT
  • Must upload current CT Special Ed Certification

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree and Connecticut Certification as a Special Educator preferred OR Durational Shortage Area Permit (DSAP) eligible.

Responsibilities

  • Promote student/adult learner engagement, independence, and interdependence in learning and facilitate a positive learning community.
  • Promote a positive learning environment that is respectful and equitable.
  • Promote developmentally appropriate standards of behavior that support a productive learning environment.
  • Maximize service delivery by effectively managing routines and transitions.
  • Design academic, social/behavioral, therapeutic, crisis, or consultative plans to engage students/adult learners in rigorous and relevant learning and to promote their curiosity about the world at large.
  • Develop plans aligned with standards that build on learners’ knowledge and skills and provide an appropriate level of challenge.
  • Develop plans to actively engage learners in content.
  • Select appropriate assessment strategies to identify and plan learning targets.
  • Participate in the development of an IEP as a member of a student’s IEP team.
  • Implement academic, social/behavioral, therapeutic, crisis, or consultative plans to engage student/adult learners in rigorous and relevant learning and to promote their curiosity about the world at large.
  • Implement service delivery for students as specified in the IEP.
  • Lead student/adult learners to construct meaning and apply new learning through the use of a variety of differentiated and evidence-based learning strategies.
  • Assess learning, provide feedback, and adjust service delivery.
  • Maximize support for learning by developing and demonstrating professionalism, collaboration, and leadership.
  • Engage in continuous professional learning to enhance service delivery and improve student/adult learning.
  • Collaborate to develop and sustain a professional learning environment to support student/adult learning.
  • Work with colleagues, students, and families to develop and sustain a positive school climate that support student/adult learning.
