About The Position

This is a Non-Exempt position. Incumbent works effectively with students who are academically, socially, and emotionally disabled, as well as parents, staff, and support personnel, to meet educational objectives and devise appropriate programs for each individual student under their care. The Special Education Teacher, under the supervision of the Special Education Director, is responsible for maintaining the learning environment in their classroom on a daily basis and requires flexibility and careful planning and coordination that is generally uncommon for most main-stream classrooms.

Requirements

  • AA or BA in education
  • Current valid Washington State Teaching Certificate, with Special Education Endorsement.
  • Obtaining a First Aid/CPR card within 30 days of hire.
  • Passing Washington State, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Colville Tribal History Background Checks.
  • Valid Washington State Drivers License and eligibility for Tribal Insurance.
  • Proof of Degree, Transcripts, and three letters of Reference provided along with application.
  • Knowledge in the instruction of the State Common Core Standards that is relevant to the content areas taught.
  • Knowledge in standard-based instruction and grading.
  • Ability to maintain communications between staff, administration, students and parents.
  • Ability to maintain a good learning environment in the resource room.
  • Ability to maintain a comprehensive in-class discipline program.
  • Ability to deal with a wider range of unacceptable behaviors, within the confines of your program, given the exceptional nature of the students.
  • Ability to establish and effective working relationships with supervisors and subordinates.
  • Ability to maintain STRICT confidentiality.
  • Ability to keep accurate records on student progress toward objectives/goals.
  • Must be able to demonstrate sound mental and physical health.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining the learning environment in their classroom on a daily basis.
  • Planning and supervising the activities of an instructional Teacher Aid.
  • Planning, directing, and teaching an individualized instruction program.
  • Attending all prescribed training and workshops, which may involve travel.
